Jukutatsu BJJ

Jukutatsu Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a Dynamic Martial Arts Academy. Our Academy trains in 3 aspects of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu namely Self Defense, the Sport and the Art. Jukutatsu means Mastery and that is our intention with our training.

We train hard and have fun. There are many elements that make the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu effective and we focus on Movements, Techniques, Strategy and Mentality. Here you will become fit and gain self-confidence while learning to defend yourself in a meaningful way. Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a life skill that has many benefits that reaches much further than just Martial Arts and will definitely be a massive asset for anyone who dedicates their time to our training.

We have an open door policy and anybody is welcome to join regardless of skill level or previous experience. We welcome kids from 13 years old and adults in our current classes. We create a safe environment where students can have fun and learn. We will be looking at adding kids classes for 5 years old to 12 years old in future…

Jukutatsu Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches Defense, Transitions and Attacks. We teach self preservation in any situation and position, transitions to escapes or reversals and attacks with pressure and skill to end a fight. Emotional control and situational awareness are also cornerstones of our teaching philosophy.

Why Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a Martial Art as well as a Sport. It is the art of human chess.

The physical aspect teaches movement, balance, good posture, co-ordination, self defense and is great for getting fit and making your body strong. Weight loss and weight management is also a side benefit whilst having fun and sharing the experience with others.

On the mental and emotional side Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches critical thinking and problem solving, stress management, mental toughness, discipline, confidence, patience and humility.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can be practiced by men, women and kids from all ages regardless of their current physical condition. It has been proven over time that it is the ultimate method for a weaker or smaller person to be able to defend themselves against larger and or stronger adversaries.

Thereafter Jedri moved to MMA in 2010 and started training grappling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He competed in 10 Amateur MMA fights and 4 Pro-Am fights before deciding it was time to focus on a corporate career. His passion for Grappling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu never stopped and he kept up his training. Jedri currently has over 10 years experience in competition and training the Art.

Jedri loves Brazilian jiu-jitsu for its functionality and practicality. He believes it is an amazing asset in daily life.

Justin Kourie – Brooklyn Instructor

Rooted in physical training since childhood, Justin has explored several martial arts over the years (including Kyokushin Karate, Muay Thai, Boxing and a bit of MMA).

In 2016 he got hooked on Jiu Jitsu, training under Marc Barton and Nic Gregoriades at the Jiu Jitsu Brotherhood in London.

After a few nomadic years since, he has trained consistently at several gyms in the UK and South Africa, learning much from every person he has had the honour to share the mat with.

Recently, he has settled in Pretoria to be close to his family. His commitment: to share the discipline, personal growth and fun of Jiu Jitsu with whoever is keen to train.
